This year we would like to introduce the 2021 vintage for Clos des Papes red. Due to the spring frost on 8 April, the owner lost 40% of their volume. However, this did not interfere with the quality of the remaining grapes, though there is less supply. 2021 is characterised by great finesse, elegance and softness. Ruby red colour, a nose of kirsch and herbs (typical of mourvèdre). The percentage of mourvèdre is significantly higher than usual (40% of the assembly), due to having lost the syrahs to the frost. This Clos des Papes 2021 is definitely a wine with good ageing potential, characterised by a great freshness, elegance in the fruit (typical for this cru), good length and depth.
The white Clos des Papes is of 2022. This vintage produced a very small volume due to the hail on 14 August, which resulted in great losses. It is a relatively powerful and rich vintage that is well-balanced because the bourboulenc and picpoul bring freshness, minerality and saltiness. The nose has aromas of flowers and anise, while in the mouth citrus clearly comes to the fore (grapefruit). Also here little volume. So act quickly, both for red and white as well as rosé!
Dom. de La Mordorée
This domain, working 100% biologically, introduces the 2021 vintage for red and the 2022 vintage for both white and rosé.
Dom. de la Mordorée 'La Dame Voyageuse' - Châteauneuf-du-Pape red 2021 consists of 90% grenache, completed with syrah, mourvèdre, vaccarese and counoise. Violets, black fruit (cherries), herbs (pepper and garrigue) in the nose. In the mouth we have ripe, clear and elegant fruit, perfectly in balance with soft tannins and a beautifully delicious aftertaste. A Châteauneuf-du-Pape that plays on sophistication.
Dom. de la Mordorée 'La Reine des Bois’ - Châteauneuf-du-Pape red 2021 consists of 80% grenache, 10% mourvèdre, 5% syrah and 5% vaccarese. This cuvée is more powerful and has more structure than the 'La Dame Voyageuse’, and so needs more storage time. Also the intensity and abundance make for great storage potential.
The Lirac 'La Reine des Bois' red 2021 is a hidden gem of this domain. In the nose we have notions of flowers (violets), but also black fruit and herbs. The mouth has very nice and pure fruit, intensely concentrated and with a balanced freshness. Appropriate wood dosage.
Lirac 'La Dame Rousse’ red 2021 got, as usual for this cuve, no oak, causing the exceptionally rich fruit flavours to really come out, and this in combination with a very nice freshness.
Lirac 'La Reine des Bois' white 2022 is one of my favourite white wines from the southern Rhône. With hints of flowers, white fruits, pear, citrus, but also minerality and a lot of expression. A rich, soft beginning, with again lots of lovely white fruit and a nice acidity. A real recommendation!
The Tavel 'La Reine des Bois' 2022 is the most full-bodied rosé of the domain with hints of strawberry and red berries, a nice freshness and minerality.
Tavel 'La Dame Rousse' 2022 has some hints of blood orange and red berries in the nose, a nice fruity middle and a very pleasant fresh touch at the end. Very enjoyable rosé.
De Dom. de La Mordorée Côtes du Rhône red is the nicest Côtes du Rhône from our assortment. This 2022 contains lots of grenache, completed with mourvèdre, cinsault and carignan. It is 100% biologically produced. Very aromatic in the nose, and rich, warm and herbal in the mouth. A true delicacy for every day.
Dom. Pegau
The Châteauneuf-du-Pape of Dom. Pegau 'Cuvée Réserve’ 2020 is one of the most powerful from our range. It is a new addition to our assortment thanks to its remarkable qualities! The assembly is 80% grenache, 6% syrah, 4% mourvèdre and 10% other grape varieties. This wine ripens for 2 years in big oak casks of 50hl. In the nose we get some hints of black cherries, raspberry, pepper, juniper and garrigue. In the mouth it feels very round, generous, powerful, but with very fine tannins. You can already pre-order these wines with a 5% pre-order discount. Delivery is scheduled around the summer of 2023.
