2016Château Clos de Boüard(Red)
This is the
second year that Coralie de Bouard (daughter of Hubert de Bouard) (Ch Angélus)
makes a wine here. It’s a 30ha-property that she bought from the Castel family
in Montagne St. Emilion. The vines have an average age of 40 years. Father
gives the advice and as for La Fleur de Bourad (Lalande Pomerol) and Ch. Angélus.
Low yields are applied 18hl/ha with double selections (manually with selection
table and with an optical eye). This contributes to the high-quality level that
is equal to that of lots of St. Emilion Grand Cru Classés. Finally, the wine
ripens, as other great wines, for almost 24 months on 50% new oak. The terroir
is fantastic (clay-lime as in St. Emilion) and the wine shows an enormous
concentration because of the low yields, severe selections and old vines! By
the way, another second wine is made (La Dame de Bouard) to raise the quality
of the first wine to an extreme level.
