5ième Grand Cru Classé
This beautiful 5th
Grand Cru Classé was property of Mr. Raymond Dupin from 1932 to 1978,
afterwards it came in hands of Mr. François-Xavier Borie, brother of Mr. Bruno
Borie who manages Ch. Ducru Beaucaillou. The name Ch. Grand Puy Lacoste arose
from the latin word ‘Podium’ (Puy) and refers to the magnificent terroir that extends
on the plateau of Pauillac. The 55ha are of very homogeneous quality
(clay-gravel) and are situated next to Ch. Lynch Bages. Mr. François-Xavier is
a very good wine maker and has never disappointed me, even in difficult
millésimes. Do also read the comments on his other wines (Ch. Lacoste Borie). To
me, Ch. Grand Puy Lacoste deserves a higher ranking and belongs (after Ch. Lafite
Rothschild and Ch. Mouton Rothschild) to the best Pauillacs. It acquires a
magnificent volume and delicacy after storage, unique in its kinds.
