2nd Grand Cru Classé
Ch. Durfort Vivens belongs
to the Lurton family since 1961, when Lucien Lurton bought the domain and
rebuilt it. It is now one of his sons, Gonzague, who has the lead of the
chateau since 1992. Gonzague is Claire
Villars’ husband (Ch. Ferrière, Ch. Haut Bages Libéral en Ch. Domeyne). He has improved the quality remarkably
during the last 5 years with as purpose to bring back the image of Ch. Durfort
Vivens’ ranking of 1855; Second Grand Cru Classé. The 55ha-vineyard and a
clay-gravel terroir are beautifully situated at the entrance of the village
Margaux and is cultivated entirely biodynamically. The characteristics are a
very high percentage of cabernet sauvignon which gives the wine a very good
storage potential. Thanks to the family’s modesty, the prices stay reasonable.
