Ch. Haut Bailly has a
stunning terroir, a sort of ridge with gravel containing iron where the
vines are incredibly strong with deep roots and at least a 100 years old. This
gives advantage to the vineyard, which means that even in difficult years Ch.
Haut Bailly is very successful and highly recommended. Those who cannot afford
Ch. Haut Brion might be better off buying a Ch. Haut Bailly. The quality is
very similar, but the price is 5 times lower. The chateau belonged to the
American Robert Wilmers who unfortunately died in December 2017. It is now his
son Mr Chris Wilmers and Mme Veronique Sanders (family of the previous owners)
that will continue the successful policy. Chris Wilmers is an ecology professor
at the university of Santa Cruz in California.
