Saint Emilion Grand Cru
This very small production of Jonathan Maltus comes
from the 1.5ha vineyard in the center on the hill of Saint Emilion between
Château Clos Fourtet, Château Beauséjour Bécot and Château Canon. This terroir,
called ‘Château Cure Bon’ before, was bought from Château Canon. It had the
shape of a square, which explains its name. His first vintage in production was
2005. As there is no wine cellar here, the vinification and maturation is done
at Château Teyssier, another château of the owner. The small production (only
300 crates a year) permits a very precise vinification, the vineyard can
carefully be followed up, like a small kitchen garden. Le Carré is considered
as a ‘garage wine’, which means a small, but very careful production, just like
his other top wines Vieux Château Mazerat and Le Dôme.
