Ch. Carmes Haut Brion launches very exclusive crates in the form of their chais…

A unique release of very rare collection boxes from leading Ch. Carmes Haut Brion is now for sale. As you may know, this is Ch. Haut Brion's neighbour, and is actually a piece of the chateau's vineyard that was once given to the 'Carmes' sisters.

Today, director Guillaume Pouthier ensures a very successful vinification year after year. As a result, this cru is almost always the first one to sell out completely during the primeur campaign.

Typical for this wine is that it contains a very high percentage of cabernet franc (39%, in addition to about 41% merlot and 20% cabernet sauvignon) and that the vinification is done with grappes entières (grapes with their stems) like in the Rhône region.

Production is, after all, very limited (40,000 bottles per year), which is not a lot for global sales. This potentially makes this wine a true investment object.

Also notice that in 2010, estate agent Patrice Pichet bought the domain and built an up to date chai there shaped like the boats that were used on the small river crossing the domain. The building was designed by the famous designer Philippe Starck and architect Arsène Henry. It just happens to be the shape of those chais that inspired the shape for these exclusive crates.

This project of special crates is called ‘Elements’. The crates were made with strips of oak from the French woods and contain some very special vintages that reflect the new vinification with 'grappes entières' used since 2012 and the 'infusion' technique since 2016.
