Saint Emilion - Saint Emilion Gr Cru Classe
Alcohol 13,0 %
It concerns a very small vineyard of 7.45ha in the south of St. Emilion, with an exceptional clay-lime terroir with old vines (45 years old) planted on slopes next to Ch. Faugères where they produce with very low yields (22hl/ha). The wine ripens during 18 months on 65% new oak barrels and the fermentation is partially done in small oak barrels (micro vinification). These are turned three times a day by the OXO wheel system. The magical duo Michel Rolland and Stephan Von Neipperg give the advice. This wine has a storage potential of 20 years. Only 9000 bottles are made yearly. The wine is packed in a sculpted bottle with the image of a blackbird on the label. The vintage merlot owes its name to the french word ‘merle’, which means blackbird. Thanks to these similarities in both color (black berries) and the fact that blackbirds like blackberries, these two were linked.
