2019Château Les Carmes Haut Brion(Red)
This small
cru of 6.4ha is situated in the middle of Pessac (Bordeaux) close to Ch. Haut
Brion. The Chantecaille family sold the property to Mr. Patrice Pichet (real
estate agent) in 2010. He has made huge
investments. First, he renewed the vinification material in the new building,
designed by the famous Philippe Starck and architect Luc Arsène-Henry. The
building has the shape of a boat and is situated on the small river that runs
through the vineyard. The boat symbolizes the
wine trade in Bordeaux that was done by boat on the Gironde. Guillaume Pouthier
(ex CVBG and maison Chapoutier from the Rhône) was addressed
for the vinification. The cru has a high percentage of cabernet franc (42%) and
half of it is vinified the same way as in the Rhône Valley ‘grappes entières’
(entire grapes with branch and berries, vinified together). 84% is ripen on new
oak barrels ; 7% in big oak barrels (foudres) and 9% in jarres of stone.
Stéphane Derenoncourt is the consultant.
